I swapped the oil pump for the new Crank Position/Top Dead Center sensor and swapped the distributor and the intake manifolds all from the USDM f22.

Got everthing put in and hooked up. The car turns over, but it won't start.

Currently not getting any spark, dizzy should be fine.

I have a ground on the thermostat housing, the tranny, the intake manifold and the valve cover.

Jumped the ECU and now the code is popping up CPS/TDC.
Would that cause the ECU to tell the car not to spark?

Any input would be helpful.

^bump^

::palm to forehead::

so i did my timing myself. me and a buddy by eye. it looked perfect.
when the motor tries to turn over obviously the crank turns, and i have tried starting it enough that everything should have moved enough that i would hear it if any valves or pistons were hitting what they werent supposed to. it sounds good.

im about to start looking around online. but im beginning to think the Crank Position/Top Dead Center sensor engine code that is tripping is BECAUSE the timing is off and NOT because the brand new sensor is bad.

Alright, you said you're getting a code, but if I'm not mistaken, there are several for the CKP/TDC (i.e. malfunction vs no signal), so what specific code are you getting? And when you swapped the oil pump, did you only change over the pump, or did you use the old F22 timing gear and stuff as well?

Also, how are you checking to see if you're getting spark? Don't forget timing can be spot on at the gears and still out 180deg at the dizzy..

just to keep an update.

sorry. i bought a brand new oil pump. didnt use my old one.

just hooked a spark plug to a plug wire to check for arc as it tried to turn over. so i thought it was the timing or the sensor telling the ecm causing no spark.

I jumped my ecm (ecu, same thing) to get the code. it was code 8 which haynes just says tdc sensor. ended up looking at it online and it came up no/intermittent signal. so went back and got another sensor through warranty.

hooked up the new sensor. redid timing and balance belt AGAIN. this time no engine code (thank god).
buuuuuuuut still the car isnt starting.

Basically since i have been troubleshooting my ass off and getting new everything it has to be my old distributor im using off my old motor. i checked for the 180 off but when i tried spinning it around and put it back, it absolutely didnt want to go into the motor.

i guess it got damaged somehow in the swap. it sucks because the dang thing was working perfect before my water pump blew in the usdm f22 and this swap had to be done in the first place.

Did you reset the ECM once you got the new sensor, and have you checked the code again since you've retried turning the engine over some more because it's probably still there.. I may be beating a dead horse, but quite honestly, most sensors don't got bad, and if the code was thrown before, you probably have some more trouble shooting to do. The reason I asked about the pump and gears is because IIRC the CKP is ran by magnets that are located in the gear itself, so if you just get a new pump and use the F22B gears since they look the same for instance, that sensor is going to trip. (I may be wrong about this since I'm an OBDI guy myself, but it's just another thing to cancel out).

Also, again for the spark test, did you ground the plug against something when looking for spark? I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but you never know about some people these days. Either way, good look with the sucker.. It's hard to internet diagnose when you're not sure what's been done and what hasn't.

no insult taken. yah. there has been a lot of tooling around with the damn thing. but here it is.

Nads Auto failed to mention a little somethin about a tiny metal plate behind the timing belt crank sprocket. it breaks the magnetic field when the crank turns and so the ecm knows to activate the fuel injectors. thanks nads. this couldve been done the 2nd day i had my motor but nooooooo. been beating my head against a wall for basically no reason. :x

had to get a guy who owns an only honda shop to come by my house and it took him about 20 minutes to figure it out.

called the interruptor plate for holofex switch. jdm motor doesnt have it. its for the ckp/tdc sensor

i will post his shops name when i know it. Bob Mundy. he knows an extremely whole hell of a lot :goodjob:

i will finally post pics and whatnot when its up and running.
