If you read anything, READ THIS: The 2019 MX-5 gets a 26hp increase!! From 155 to 181!! And it hits a 7,500 redline!! THAT’S what I’m talkin’ ’bout!!!

This feels good!! It’s like waking up, looking in the mirror, and seeing almost an ab! Haha Honestly though, if you understand the attraction of the MX-5, then you understand the power bump for 2019 puts the Miata exactly where it needs to be from the showroom. And this, ladies & gentleman, is exactly what you do when you’re Mazda…. and “Driving Matters”. The engine improvements for the 2019 MX-5 are not just a tweak here or there… Mazda didn’t phone it in. This is a reworking… an overhaul, that includes a bigger throttle body, larger intake/exhaust vales, new crankshaft, lighter pistons & rods, and better fuel delivery.

A couple months ago, I was online browsing SLIGHTLY USED 2016/17 MX-5s looking for a deal. But now – it’s really gotta be the 2019, right! And that’s how you keep selling the new cars… by improving them! By giving us a reason. By not letting them become stale or passive. By continuing to raise your own standards… so we as enthusiasts, are drawn to buy the new ND Miata, instead of another 2-decade-old “project Miata”.

I had this press car on a totally bum week. Either sunny & freezing… or raining & real cold. Aka: NOT primo Miata weather! And yet – driving this Miata in those crummy conditions STILL put a giant grin on my face, and STILL made me want an MX-5. Badly. Get the 2019. The new engine is worth it.
