As many of you might have heard by now, the iconic Corvette is going electric.

I’m not sure how to feel about it, but the Corvette is going electric. #corvette #electric #ev

Well, technically it is going to be a hybrid first…

THEN it’s going all electric… but you get my drift. Anyway, I’m not really sure how to feel about this groundbreaking news. My heart (that loves the automotive industry so much) hates it because I don’t want to see the Corvette turned into a gimmicky electric car that actually has a decently high chance of failing. GM is new to this game, so I’m not sure I have enough confidence in them to pull this off. Corvettes are historically fast, fun, reliable, and sexy. Can they still check all of these boxes on the electric side?

My head (which is always trying to look for the best path forward for the automotive industry) kind of likes the news, because this could be the first mass production really cool electric sports car. Tesla promised us one a few years ago, but I haven’t seen anything about it since the initial launch. All of the current EV’s being made right now just seem so cookie-cutter and boring, so this might be the breath of fresh air that we need.

The more that I think about it…

The more I am convinced that my only real problem with this news is that they’re using the Corvette name. I would be totally fine with it if they called it pretty much anything else. When I hear Corvette, I think of a ground-pounding V-8, rear wheel drive, with massive tires, and a targa top. Are we are looking at the end of an era here… or the beginning of a new/exciting one?
