It’s everyone’s dream to do what they love for a living, but how many people actually get to live that dream out?
This is Caleb Sandlund, but you may know him better by his screen name, Gingium. Gingium is an automotive YouTuber that has been creating videos on the platform since 2013. He gets to make a living doing what he loves every single day. He started when he was in high school by uploading videos of himself playing video games. Eventually, he started making money off of the vids, so much so… that he was able to buy his first car, a 1990 Mariner Blue Miata that he named Molly. From that point on, his channel began to shift from video games to cars.
Living the Dream
Fast forward to today, and Caleb has acquired over 311,000 subscribers on YouTube and uploads a video almost every single day of the week. Not only does he still have that very first Miata (now turbocharged and built to track specs), but he also owns another Miata that’s lifted & supercharged called the Rally Miata… where he competes in off-road rallycross events. Of course, you need a tow rig for that kind thing, right? But buying a truck seemed too easy… so he decided to purchase a 2006 E-450 school bus, that he since converted into an RV! For his current on-going project, which is the main focus of his channel right now, he is building a 1991 Mazda B2200 that he is VVTi 1UZ-FE swapping, with the intentions on using it to teach himself how to drift.
Start Today!
It’s no big secret that YouTube has become one of the largest sources for entertainment in modern media. The crazy part about it is how ANYONE can do it! And – if you have the right mindset & dedication… you can even make a living off of this stuff. Caleb never expected that he would be building kickass cars in his OWN shop when he uploaded his first video in high school. But, his passion drove him to keep uploading & trying new things… and it worked out for him.
I think the takeaway is: If you have a dream or a goal that you want to set out to achieve in life, don’t let anything or anyone hold you back from it. Start today! Because a year from now, you’ll wish you had.
Do whatever it takes, and go wherever life takes you to make it happen. Shake hands with everyone you meet, and say yes to every opportunity, because especially in this digital world… you never know where you might end up. Caleb sure didn’t.
