Tech geeks & Tesla boys are pitching tents in their capri pants over this Cybertruck video right now. And yeah I’ll give credit where it’s due: The Cybertruck’s water crossing is impressive. But not THAT impressive.

1) The wake made by the flat-nosed 6,900-pound Cybertruck plowing through the water…

Gives it the illusion of being deeper than it actually is. C’mon mathletes. You gotta understand the Cybertruck is essentially snow-plowing water here. It’s physics. If you want to know where the real water depth lies: Look at the water level at the nose… then look at the water level around the doors… then kinda average the two together. And for reference, the Cybertruck comes with ~33” tires, and has a 17” ground clearance. It seems a little strange that the YouTubers didn’t officially measure the water depth at any point.

2) There’s pavement under the Cybertruck.

Trusty ol’ pavement. It’s not natural terrain. Nor is it rock, rubble, sand, algae… or any combination of unknown/unforeseen obstacles. In other words, this is about as close to a controlled lab test as you’re gonna get from Mother Nature.

3) The Cybertruck did take damage…

Both physical AND electronic damage were incurred. A panel on the back bumper came off. And – the electronic controls for the tailgate & tonneau cover failed. Gee if only there was some sort of design that wasn’t electronically dependent. Something like a… latching device… or a tailgate handle that you could just open by pulling on it. Oh well I guess we’ll get there someday lol.

Truthfully though – buy what makes you happy.

If you’re happy, I’m happy. Highs & lows – I respect the fact that Tesla broke the mold with the Cybertruck. Just understand that these two videos below are not the same thing.
