Rumor has it: Toyota is resurrecting the MR2 and the Celica. It’s still early, and anything is subject to change, but both cars will use a Toyota 4-cylinder turbo with all-wheel drive, making in the neighborhood of 400hp off the showroom floor. The MR2 will be a mid-engine sports car as it’s always has been. And the Celica will still be a front engine sports coupe (rest assured, not some crossover called a Celica-Cross lol). KEY POINTS: Both cars are looking at Toyota-made 4-cylinder turbo engines, 6-speed manual transmissions, NO hybrid, and NO electrification.

The new MR2 & Celica…

Are on the calendar for late mid/late 2026. It looks like the MR2 will be a lower-production niche vehicle, and will likely cost mid-60k. Whereas the Celica will have more mass-intentions, and come at a low 40k price point.

We really hope Toyota can bring the price down on the MR2. Sure, we understand the barriers. But the ultimate value of the MR2 – is the real impact/renaissance it could make on the automotive industry if it was more accessible. The stage is set for a car company to do what Mazda did with the Miata 35 years ago. And Toyota is absolutely the brand to do it.

Toyota is saving the spirit of driving

From their 4x4s to their sports cars, Toyota has tapped into what it is that connects people to their vehicles. In a recent car industry of total disconnection – Toyota has connected. They’ve stood against a rushed electrification agenda. And they’ve shown the courage to speak their minds & hearts while other car-makers buckled to nonsensical political & corporate pressures.

In other words, Toyota has already earned their fanbase. Yet still, they’re quadrupling-down for the enthusiasts. It’s like a college football game where the opposing team is still scoreless in the 4th quarter, but instead of letting up, the coach leans-in & says,  “Put a halfa-hundred on ‘em.”
