By golly they did it! Someone has injected some fun back into Honda! Gone are the days where I mocked them incessantly for ‘earth dreams’ motors and flaccid chassis. With the Civic Type R, Si and now this 2018 Honda Accord leading the way…it is a brand new day for The Big H.
Now, the old Accord was not a bad car, but it did lack some driving excitement. That problem is solved with this new generation. Steering is perfectly weighted, brake feel is excellent and the chassis just begs to be thrown into a corner. That is on top of the comfortable seats, beautiful interior and just a stunning set of stock wheels. BUT that is also on top of that gem of a motor!
Now, top of the line Accords are powered by a 2.0 Liter turbo 4 cylinder derived from the Civic Type R. What does that get you? It gets you 252 horsepower and, more importantly, 273 ft/lbs of torque! That 273 ft/lbs arrives at only 1500 RPM helping surge the Accord from a stop, but also delivers a midrange punch that is phenomenal. And since it’s a Honda, and since it’s a turbo…it responds beautifully to a tune!
So how is it as a daily driver? Excellent. The cabin is airy and spacious, the infotainment has Apple CarPlay and the road noise is held to a minimum.
So if you are in the market for a new car that has some soul to it. Look at the 2018 Honda Accord.
