Most supercars & hypercars have lost their magic these days. Tech has replaced the romance. Computers have replaced the machine. And yeah yeah – you can quote me all the specs of the new blip-blip whatchamacallit… but I could honestly care less. Sure – they have the numbers. However, they lack the magic that exotics of yesteryear had. But then I read about this Lotus Evija Fittipaldi Edition, and I felt like a kid in the 80s again… getting psyched-up about the future of cars. It gave me a swoosh of energy I haven’t felt in a long time.

Lotus Evija Fittipaldi Edition

This is one bad Lotus!

…With just over 2,000hp, and over 1250tq… it hits 0-60 in under 3 seconds. AND – 0-185 in under 8 seconds. Let that sink in. Sit back, close your eyes, and try to visualize that 185mph pull. Push it further, and it’ll reach a (governed) top speed of 217. And yeah – it’s electric.

But the Lotus Evija Fittipaldi Edition doesn’t ‘lose me’ with electrification.

I don’t tune-out my ‘care factor’ like I normally would. See – the fact that it’s electric doesn’t DEFINE it. On the contrary, it kind of mesmerizes me, and adds to the intensity. There’s just something about it that feels different. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain, but electric feels – somehow right in this particular Lotus.

The Fittipaldi Edition is the clincher…

See I grew up around vintage racing. So when you point me into the direction of the future… while channeling my childhood nostalgia? I’m pretty damn receptive to that. Especially when you do it authentically & honestly, as Lotus has done.

The Fittipaldi Edition is more than just an iconic black & gold paint-scheme…

It’s been 50 years since Fittipaldi won the F1 championship with Lotus. And the round dial in the center console of this car – comes from a reclaimed piece of aluminum from an original Type 72 Formula 1 car. That’s beyond cool. Other features of the Fittipaldi Edition include a render of the original Type 72 on the interior of the Evija’s roof. Fittipaldi’s autograph is also stitched into the dash. Only 8 of the Fittipaldi Editions will be made, and they’re all already sold… so good luck there. But the Lotus Evija (still don’t know how to pronounce it lol) proves that ‘EV’ doesn’t have to be automated or soulless. The ‘EV factor’ doesn’t even have to be the focal point… if the car is strong enough on its own.

I know the rules are different for normal production cars, but we’re in a stage where car manufacturers just cannot seem to envision an EV… without making it look & drive like an iPhone. This current auto industry is full of followers & confused copy-cats that have been knocked off their axis by Tesla… and it doesn’t have to be that way. Do you see an overabundance of screens here? An EV can be intensely visceral & pure… if car manufacturers would just be leaders, find their balls, & think passionately.
