The car hobby can teach you valuable life lessons. Lessons you can take on your journey of life to do great things. For example, I got a lesson the other day lol. Sometimes the answer you’re looking for is simple & right in front of your face… but you’re just too fixated & pig-headed to see it. So teach yourself to be able to see & approach things with clarity & a fresh set of eyes. Case in point…

This Ford Fiesta ST…

I’ve been convinced for the embarrassing better part of a year, that my Fiesta ST had a minor suspension issue. Something worn in the front coilovers. I’ve put the car on jack-stands a dozen times. And I’ve pulled the coilovers out, dissected them, and wiggled/tightened everything in the frontend. I started driving the car less, not wanting to exacerbate whatever the issue was. And in short – I drove myself crazy not being able to find the problem.

Then yesterday…

In a completely unrelated task, I was changing oil. I got under the car with a fresh set of eyes & no frustration. And low & behold – right above my nose (eclipsed by the subframe), was a broken exhaust hanger… a $5 part with a 2-minute install. The broken rubber hanger was letting the exhaust just barely TINK-TINK on the subframe when the car hit bumps. And I was unquestionably convinced that it was the front/passenger suspension. I couldn’t see past what I thought was true. So listen – if you find yourself stuck & frustrated by an obstacle…

Change your approach…

Back up, and re-approach the problem/situation with an open mind, a fresh set of eyes, and a blank slate. That’s the lesson. Now let’s see if I’m smart enough to actually learn it lolol.
