Tesla kills-off the Model S & Model X. But how does that play out? It’ll be interesting, because that leaves only the Model 3 & Model Y. And also the Cybertruck… which has flopped.

Although long in the tooth…

The S & X were Tesla’s prestigious models (along with Cybertruck). Without them, what will the trendy Youtube-dweebs drive? I say that half-joking, but seriously. 5-grade boys idolize those Youtubers, and it had them believing Teslas were cooler than Porsches. That’s a young, adamant fanbase that would grow-up to shape the next generation of the automotive industry. But without the Model S & X, Tesla just sliced-off any SX appeal it ever had. The Model 3 & Y are essentially just Altimas of the EV world.

So what happens next?

Is Tesla retooling for humanoid robots? Haven’t we seen how that movie ends?

Is the Roadster finally coming? Creepy cabs? Or the more affordable/approachable Model 2? Problem is: Elon Musk has pep-rallied, crowd-funded, and cried wolf so much, that it’s hard to tell. Is Tesla even a car company? Or is it a tech company that disrupted the hell out of the automotive industry?

Finally, to what extent did politics play into this?

That’s not for me to say. Personally, my distaste for Tesla stems from passion, not politics. I want to DRIVE! And while I believe ‘the right kind’ of EV could be truly exciting & visceral… I have no interest in driving an iPhone.

So where does Tesla go with this news. Who knows… but I hope it’s ultimately positive for car enthusiasts, and people who want to soak-up moments & memories behind the wheel.
