So despite his best efforts, the S13 chassis got its hooks in Tyler. And I think we’re all better off for it because his 240sx is the tattooed, scarred version of what we all love about cars. Tyler’s Corolla, however, has a more classic beauty. And we’re all better off for that too. Because the drift culture is a battle zone, and it’s nice to see the survivors rise through the carnage. This isn’t a regular tandem car, but it is a driver that does regularly get to see the light of day. We’re reaching a turning point with these 80’s Japanese icons, where they’re beginning to transition from bottom- dollar project cars, to pined-for nostalgic cars. They’re crossing over from ‘old’ to ‘vintage’… and that comes with an earned character that we shouldn’t be so quick to hack up & destroy. And this build is a great, respectful blend of classic meeting modified.

This Corolla has the 4AGZE motor. That’s the top-line supercharged 4AG, making around 165 crank horsepower. It’s a super-cool 80’s engine with great balance, great sound, and great drivability. In America, it was found in the 88-89 MR2.
Tyler ordered a full Run Free Type-2 aero kit for the car. Being a Japanese manufactured kit, it’s made to fit the JDM Levin (fixed headlights)… so it’s necessary to ditch the US flip-up headlights. Run Free also makes a hood & fender so the only missing link to find is the JDM Levin headlights & grill of choice.

Tyler is one of the co-owners of Koruworks in the Atlanta area. Koruworks is a shop, but to describe them better would be to call them an “automotive outfitter”. Because what really distinguishes Koruworks, is their absurd knowledge of authentic JDM brands, and their ability to source those oddball brands & ship them in. If you’re one of those guys who like the JDM race styles, and know what look you’re going for… but DON’T know what the hell any of these Japa- nese underground companies are called or where to find them – give Koruworks a call & introduce yourself. Trust me – they’ll do the nerd-work for you. They are amazing at sourcing hard-to-find parts, and they’ll make sure you get exactly what you want, and give you some great suggestions & knowledge along the way.
