Dodge is calling ‘LAST CALL’ on the gas-powered Challenger & Charger muscle cars. And to mark the end of the era, they’re doing some celebratory things with the cars for the 2023 model year. 1) Dodge is releasing 7 special models that will pay tribute to the legacy/heritage of the brand. 2) They’re re-releasing iconic MOPAR colors, & unlocking certain Jailbreak combinations/restrictions, allowing enthusiasts to make one-of-one custom orders. 3) The entire 2023 model-run of Chargers & Challengers will be allocated to dealerships all at once, making it easier to secure the car you want. You’ll be able to check dodgegarage.com to follow inventory & see which cars are going to which dealers. 4) There will be other teasers & trinkets & special badging… but that the gist of it.
Make no mistake, this is the end of a true golden era.
No matter how you feel about the Challenger & Charger now… mark my words… one day you’ll look back & smile thinking about these cars. One day real soon… these will be the good ol days. And your grandkid will look up from his daily government-allocated food vitamin & say, “Did people really drive cars like that Papa?” You’ll smile, and say, “Hell yes we did brother!” Then the IRS drones will fine you both for passion speech & send you back to the cobalt mines.
Come to think of it…
Although it wasn’t my proudest moment, punting that orange widebody Challenger Redeye through a sheriff’s mailbox in 2019 was probably one of the most badass things I’ve ever done… in hindsight.
Yeah – it sucks that Dodge caved.
It feels like one of the last great rock bands breaking up. Tim Kuniskis recently said, “We are celebrating the end of an era — and the start of a bright new electrified future — by staying true to our brand.”
And freedom rang a little less.
You know he didn’t want to say that. Just a few years ago, he was up on stage passionately saying things that sounded a lot different. But man – things can sure change fast.
Honestly though…
Think about it: If any car company on the planet can make electric cars cool… it might just be Dodge. I naturally don’t have a ton of faith… but I do have hope. Put it this way – I have more faith in Dodge with this task than any other car manufacturer. The entire Dodge name is riding on it & they know it. So good luck boys.
Now is the time…
The automotive industry is changing fast. If you want a tire-shredding, air-breathing, gas-burning, rowdy AF American muscle car that wants to kill you… this is it. Last call!
