Flyin’ Miata is axing their entire V8-swap catalogue. That means – no more V8-swapped Miatas will come out of the shop. No more turn-key cars for sale. And no more swap-kits for the DIYer. Why?? I’m glad you asked that. Here’s a statement directly from Flyin’ Miata that we swiped from Road & Track’s site.
“While Flyin’ Miata has an extensive history of building LSx-converted Miatas from 2008-2018 and churning out some of the most exciting Miatas to grace streets, autocrosses, tracks, and hill climbs all over the world, we have discontinued our V-8 conversion service and are no longer offering turn-key builds or conversion parts for V-8 builds. With EMMISSIONS REGULATIONS becoming increasingly stringent and GOVERNMENT ENTITIES seemingly eager to slap big fines on businesses that sell ’emissions defeat devices’, we have made the difficult decision to lay our V-8 program to rest.”
People, this is our modern government working against us.
Pressing us… and pushing the limits. Our government is hurting small businesses, and hurting the hobbyists… under the guise of helping the environment. That’s bullshit. And if you can’t see it, it’s imperative that you start waking TF up. A Miata can only make emissions if it’s running. Meanwhile an EV has created a giant carbon footprint before its very first mile? How many miles does a recreational vehicle like a V8-swapped Miata see per year? Maybe 5,000 generously? So a recreational/modified Miata that sees 5,000 miles/year (generously) is a worthwhile problem for our government?? Meanwhile that same government is forcefully pushing an EV agenda that digs giant cancerous holes in our earth’s crust? And stands by General Motors while they make a 9,000lb EV?? And then they all lie through their teeth calling it zero-emissions while signing each other’s paychecks?? I’ll say it again – wake TF up.
Government overregulation will not stop enthusiasts from building cars like this… just like prohibition did not stop people from drinking.
It will, however, make it impossible for anyone to run a legitimate business & feed their family off it. And it will, however, turn upstanding patriotic citizens into outlaws for pursuing their hobbies. Unchecked, government overregulation will not stop – ever. They will keep squeezing & squeezing until we are too silenced & scattered to resist. This is the squeeze. We’re in it. Our government is exercising dominance & oppression… and control over your freedoms. And to claim it’s about the environment in any shape or form, is mocking our intelligence at this point.
Flyin’ Miata felt forced to cave under the pressure/intimidation of a government agency. We shouldn’t have to fear our government… from taking our livelihood. Flyin’ Miata should not have to feel pressured to close a defining segment of their business… in order to keep the rest of their business from being shut down by the government.
Car guys often “don’t want to get political” but this is what happens when adults, don’t talk about the not-so-fun-conversations sometimes about adulthood. Voting for people who are not supporting the RPM act is killing an entire industry.
The United States makes up less than 5% of the global population. There are two entire continents that don’t even use catalytic converters. Voting for people who are causing businesses in your city, state, and country to decide not to be automotive enthusiasts because the government is going to take their livelihood is absolutely not okay, and you’re kidding yourself if you think you’re doing anything of true purpose. I’ve yet to see someone who carbon tarriff’s items from South America, Africa, India, Russia, and the Middle East, we just make it so American companies can’t compete globally, or just give up, such as what is being demonstrated here.
