The box – the Scion xB. Wouldn’t be nice to have a refreshing option like this in today’s new car market? Closest thing we get today is a Maverick with an automatic transmission that’s somehow 35-grand lol. Scion may not have gotten everything right throughout their course. But dammit they got a lot of it super-right… especially in these first generation xBs. Affordable, modifiable, funky, fun, versatile. Scion was a brand that fought for car culture & customization. They were the damn chicken nuggies of cars at the time. Good, cheap, simple grinds that hit the spot… & sauce it however you like it. Where’s that energy now?

I’ll tell ya what happened, but you’re probably not gonna like it…

New generations came up that didn’t know how to have fun. Their nuggies had to be vegan, gluten free, & sustainable. Scion (confused) pivoted & chased millennials & hipsters who would rather rideshare than drive. And on top of that – the vibrant, addictive, magnetic side of 2000s import car culture became too elitist for its own good. Bing bang boom – now we get Subarus with CVTs & cars that we plug in lol. Good news is…

These Scion XBs…

Are good enough, simple enough, and serviceable enough to basically run forever. They have solidified aftermarket support. And they’re FUN to screw with. So fvck the system of overpriced appliance cars & all their nonsense. We can turn a wrench, therefore we can do what we want (be ungovernable lol). This is Jesse Olive’s Scion xB. Read on…

Duck Tail Racing xB

Scion XB Exterior

Alright let’s run through the aesthetic/aero mods on this whip. This Scion xB sports a Ducktail Racing front lip, which is apparently 1 of only 5 worldwide. Complementing that piece – is a Ducktail Racing front face finisher & custom front grille. Moving/flowing back, it’s got a carbon fiber hood & carbon fiber fender flares, along with 84-86 Hilux mirrors. All of which are painted/tinted candy black cherry pearl. Beyond that, it’s got a custom wiper cowl, shaved emblems, and color-matched vent shades. And on back, you’ll find a Ducktail Racing rear wing & deleted rear wiper.

Scion XB – Wheels & Suspension

The wheels are SSR SP1 Professors in 17×9 front, and 17×10 rear. And the Xb runs Airlift suspension with Accuair management. For obvious reasons, it has RGB underglow.

Scion XB – Interior & Audio

Tech killed the vibe of car interiors. Screens are a damn pandemic. And it’s all too integrated to have any fun in the aftermarket. The rad era was rad because parts changed-out like Lego. And that yielded a lot more personalization & customization. Let’s start with the boom, shall we? The stereo features DD AUDIO equipment. It’s got 2 amps, 2 8in mid-ranges, 2 horns, and 4 10in subs. All the enclosures are custom (and lighted throughout), and it features a floating tank for the air suspension. Much of the interior is paint-matched to the exterior. The pillars are carbon fiber. And the racing seats have been wrapped in suede.

Other funky stuff…

This Scion xB flexes a short throw shifter, DC Sports header/exhaust, and a DC Sports intake. And really, that’s all you need to have a good time in something like an xB. You don’t have to set the world ablaze, you just gotta vibe-out.

Look – the Scion xB might not be the influencer hype build platform of 2025. You won’t see many at SEMA anymore. But really… who cares? Jesse Olive doesn’t. And in a way, shouldn’t not caring be fundamental to being a legitimate influencer anyway? I swear these influencers are the most influenced ones out there. Anyway, I’m not trying to hurt feelings. Just saying, if this Toyota-built JDM box was right-hand-drive & never came to America with a Scion badge, it’d be a different plot wouldn’t it? Ok – till next time.
