When a new issue comes out, I usually head over to Books-a-Million to pick it up. I’ve done this at multiple locations. If I don’t see the new issue, I’ll walk up to the counter and ask for it.
I ask, “Do you have the new issue of S3?”
The BAM employee logs off gay.com, and proceeds to look it up on their computer database. “What? We don’t carry that”
So I say, “Sure you do. Could you try looking it up by ‘Speed Style & Sound’?”
The BAM employee smirks, but bangs away at the keyboard another ten minutes, then says “Nope, we don’t carry it”
So I say, “Yes, you do. I know you do, whats the deal?”
The BAM employee then gets an attitude, waves his (her? it’s?) finger at me, and tells me “Look, we don’t carry it!”
At that point, I have to go back, grab it, and take it to the counter. I then ask them to find the new issue, at that point, they usually look around for a few minutes and go get it from the back.
Is it just that they don’t keep a record of what magazines they carry in their system? I dunno, but its happened plenty of times and its obnoxious. I just bought a subscription, but I called and checked to see if the local BAM had the new issue today and got the same runaround, even though I know they carry it.

You actually think they look up what you ask them? It is easier for them just to say they don’t have something.
