Toyota USA dropped a short reel on social media with 4 slides of vintage Toyota Land Cruiser emblems, along with some text teasing…

Did you really think we’d be gone for long? The legend returns.

Of course that gets everyone speculating…

So let’s join the fun. Here’s the timeline: The Land Cruiser left Toyota’s lineup in the US after 2021. It’s a great vehicle, but one can argue that it had become a bit lackluster for the price. It had definitely worked its way into a very niche clientele in the American market. But then, the updated Lexus LX 600 came onto the scene in 2022. The LX 600 is an impressive SUV on the new global Land Cruiser chassis, but with Lexus luxury & styling treatment… which has a broader appeal in the American market. Yes there remains a small void in the Toyota lineup, but that void will be more than filled by the new Sequoia, which is sure to be a carpool line slayer.

But now Toyota foreshadows the Land Cruiser’s return to America…

Overseas, Toyota makes the Land Cruiser Prado, which is a smaller model that shares the Lexus GX chassis. Lexus just revealed the stunning new GX 550 last week. And coincidentally, Toyota teases a new Land Cruiser this week??

My 2-cents…

This is just an educated guess, and I’m going a little out there on it. But my prediction is: Toyota is bringing the Land Cruiser back on the GX / Prado chassis, which will land it right with the hugely successful Jeep Wrangler & Ford Bronco in size. AND – just like those two vehicles, my hunch is that the Land Cruiser is coming back as a TOP-DOWN (removable top) 4×4. And now that I said it… I’ll be mad if it doesn’t lol.
